Thundarr the Barbarian hit my TV set in 1980 I believe.
The series was pretty exciting for the time.
The series was produced by Ruby-Spears Productions (though my memory wanted to say Hanna Barbara). RB produced quite a few of my favorites including The Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show, and Rubik the Amazing Cube.
The cartoon had everything a young kid could want, sword and sorcery, monsters all set in a Planet Of The Apes like post apocalyptic earth.
The main characters:
Princess Ariel, the sorceress
Thundarr The Barbarian
Ookla the Mok, my favorite character on the show. He was very Chewbacca like to me, which of course made him a favorite.
The series while short lived was the launching pad for a lot of my childhood favorites including the Dungeons & Dragons game, Conan The Barbarian, Krull, and even He-Man and The Masters of the Universe.
