Bill Daily Passes Away

Bill Daily has passed away at 91.

Bill was best known for his roles in The Bob Newhart Show (as airline pilot Howard Borden) and I Dream of Jeannie (as Major Roger Healey).

While I Dream Of Jeanie ended a few years before I was born, the re-runs were regular viewing for my brother and sister and I in the 1970’s. I didn’t watch him on The Bob Newhart Show in it’s first run, but caught his performance in re-runs years later. Bill was definitely one of the great comedy actors in sitcoms.

Variety posted a quote from Bob Newhart detailing what a great comedy actor Bill Daily was, “I called him our bullpen man. Whenever we were having trouble with a script on the show, we’d have Bill make an appearance, In recent years we had hoped to have Bill be a part of ‘The Bob Newhart Show’ tributes at the TV Academy but by then he was no longer traveling. He was one of the most positive people I ever knew and we’ll dearly miss him.”
