Harlem Globetrotters

Growing up in the 1970’s I was always entertained by the Harlem Globetrotters.

I believe the first time I ever saw them was on an episode of The Scooby Doo Movies. I had heard my Dad talk about the Globetrotters but this was my first experience.

Thanks to the USA Cartoon Express I was able to watch the early 70’s Hanna-Barbera Harlem Globetrotters cartoon series.

Of course one of the most exciting appearances was the live action The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island in 1981. I remember when it was first advertised I was very excited, a new adventure with Gilligan, and The Harlem Globetrotters.

I never got to see the Globetrotters live, though I did get an opportunity to see a small traveling team that mimicked their style called The Harlem All-Stars at a fundraiser at a local high school. It was very entertaining, but nothing replaces the great Meadowlark Lemon.
